NIA 2024 AWARDS House in Auasblick

Home to a nuclear family, this residence is situated in the upscale suburb of Auasblick, known for its opulent ambiance in Windhoek. Positioned on a steep slope with an overall height variation of 7 meters across the site, this location presented a unique opportunity for landscape-integrated design. Modernity and linearity serve as the focal points of this architectural endeavor, drawing inspiration from frameless architectural principles to optimize the panoramic views inherent in this spectacular neighborhood

A proposed access point at the lowest end of the site facilitates the establishment of a lower ground floor, where the garage harmonizes with a self-contained servant unit and a storage room. Above this, the ground floor unfolds, featuring a prominent canopy that distinctly emphasizes the main entrance to the residence.

Upon entering, guests are welcomed into a space where the family hosts gatherings. A double-volume lounge area, adorned with a glass sliding folding door, beckons guests to explore the outdoor spaces. Situated to the north of the building are the kitchen and dining areas, allowing inhabitants to indulge in feasts while relishing the scenic outdoor views. Positioned at the front of the house, the study offers visual access to the entrance and a partial view of the street. The outdoor entertainment area serves as the nucleus of the residence, as most spaces seamlessly connect to it, offering refreshing scenic vistas.

Ascending to the first floor reveals two bedrooms, including the master bedroom, and a more private lounge for the family. Expansive balcony spaces enable the appreciation of the landscape and provide an opportunity to savor the breath-taking sunsets.
